All attendees, speakers, and moderators at our symposium are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organizers will enforce this code throughout the event. We expect cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everybody.
Our symposium is dedicated to providing a respectful and harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size or shape, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We will not tolerate harassment or disrespectful behavior by participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for our event, including talks, Twitter and other online media.
We value respectful behavior above individual opinions. Respectful behavior includes: being considerate, kind, constructive, and helpful. Avoiding demeaning, discriminatory, harassing, hateful, or physically threatening behavior, speech, and imagery. If you’re not sure, ask someone. Never assume.
The nature of our symposium implies potential to disagree. Please disagree, but do it in a respectful manner. Allow space for others to learn and educate themselves, allow this space for yourself.
WHAT CONSTITUTES HARASSMENT AND DISRESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR?
Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, sexual images in public or virtual spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other sessions, and unwelcome sexual attention.
If the conference organizers determine that an event participant is behaving disrespectfully, the organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including expulsion and exclusion from the event without warning.
As organizers, we will seek to resolve conflicts peacefully and in a manner that is positive for the community. We can’t foresee every situation so if, in the organizers’ judgment, the best thing to do is to ask a disrespectful individual to leave, we will do so.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I EXPERIENCE DISRESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR?
If you are being harassed or experience disrespectful behavior, you are encouraged to respectfully discourage them from that behavior.
If you feel in any way unable to respond and resolve it respectfully (for any reason), please immediately bring it to the attention of the organizers. We want to hear from you about anything that you feel is disrespectful, threatening, or uncomfortable in any way. We will listen and work hard to resolve the matter.
All organizers will be happy to help participants contact venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the symposium. We value your attendance.
